This App is designed to accompany you along the National Famine Way trail. The National Famine Way is a self-guided trail detailing the ill-fated journey of 1,490 famine emigrants who walked from Strokestown Park (home of the National Famine Museum) in Roscommon to ships in Dublin in 1847, at the height of the Irish Famine. Over 30 pairs of bronze shoes are interspersed along the 165km route and each pair of shoes is digitally and physically way-marked. This App will indicated where each pair of shoes are located plus it will provide the walker with:
- A geo-location map of the full trail,
- Lists of local amenities in each area,
- Local history and interesting facts relevant to each stage of the trail. Some of these are visual and some are audio.
- Marita Conlon-McKenna’s re-imagined story of 12 year old Daniel Tighe who walked this trail in 1847.
